NEW: Matcha Marshmallow Latte, coming January 6th

We're all about matcha this month!

Welcome to Humani-T’s new newsletter. We’ll be using Substack to send you e-mails about the latest at Humani-T. Don’t worry, we’re not going to blast your inbox or anything, just a monthly(ish) e-mail that keeps you in the loop about the epic things we’re churning out of our gelato machine, bakery, espresso machine, and coffee roaster.

You might not know this, but…

… We import our own matcha and supply cafes and grocers around Halifax (and beyond). We also make a mean Matcha Latte at both locations with it.

Our matcha is grown in high elevations, away from pollution. It has 70x more antioxidants than oranges and 10x more than regular green tea. It also has 9x more beta carotene than spinach.

If you’re in Dartmouth or Bedford, you can purchase our matcha at Dave’s Market and Pete’s Fine Foods respectively. We also sell it by the tin at both Humani-T locations — along with the matcha whisk to help you prepare it!

We’ll be serving lots of matcha this month

As you walk into both locations in January, you’ll find a big display of matcha starting January 6th. You’ll be able to purchase our packs of matcha to take home, as well as any accessories you may need for it. Best of all? You can try a cup of matcha in the cafe before committing to it. Matcha has enormous health benefits, but can have a bitter taste if you make it too strong. Allow us to make it delicious for you by preparing a Matcha Marshmallow latte — our signature Matcha Latte with a dose of toasted marshmallow syrup and a few marshmallows on top. Your taste buds will thank you for your decision!

An e-mail from a customer…

“Dear Humani-T:

I am always suspicious of supplements due to the fact they are not regulated. I always wonder if I`m truly getting what is proclaimed by the manufacturer.

I discovered your products through a friend of mine. He swears by your Matcha tea and claims to be in such great shape due to it`s benefits. Following in his footsteps, I purchased the Matcha tea and I too noticed a huge improvement in my being.

It is important to note that I have not worked out regularly for over 10 years due to serious back and neck injuries suffered in a car accident . I have never smoked, I rarely consume alcohol however, I do smoke the odd joint. Even though I am not overweight and watch what I eat, I am not in the best shape as I was before my accident.

After about three days of taking Matcha daily in the morning, I noticed that for the first time in eight years I had NO MORE daily joint and bone pain. I am finally getting back on track and excited to begin an exercise routine and start running again. Now that`s progress!!

I`ve tried all sorts of other prescription remedies that did absolutely nothing to ease my pain and keep it away, which is why I thought I had to live with the pain every day (my alternative was back surgery). Since I started to take Matcha for overall wellness, it was a totally unexpected surprise to realize that Matcha was responsible for taking my joint and bone pain away.

For those non-believers...there were no other changes to my daily regimen. The pain returned about a week after I ran out of the tea and then went away again after I started taking it regularly again.

Things just keep getting better...
I then ordered the Iso-Pro Whey, the Spirulina, and the Omega Complete. I`ve been taking these supplements daily for the past three weeks (as per the suggested smoothie recipe). I have NOT begun to exercise (hey, after ten years of living with pain - one gets a little apprehensive to jump into a dramatic lifestyle change overnight) but yet I have noticed a huge improvement in the way my body feels and looks already - I am leaner, my skin has improved dramatically, and I have more energy throughout the day. People look at me and ask me what I am doing because I look much healthier lately. I even seem to have a more restful sleep.

I have not done anything else to change my lifestyle except to add these. I can no longer see my life without them.

And all these benefits without exercise in just two months. WOW! I look forward to further enhanced benefits when I start training again.

I cannot thank you enough for these wonderful health products. Because of them, I have returned to living rather than missing my life.

I want people to know that I believed in myself enough to make the investment and to take the first steps to try these products. It turns out I did something truly incredible!

- Sincerely, James P. Etobicoke, ON”

We got this email from our customer James in Ontario. It was not solicited nor will he be compensated in any way for his comments.

Matcha is a green tea powder that is extremely rich in nutrients connected with immune support, weight loss, increased energy, heart health and the balancing of our PH levels. Most of us are slightly more acidic than is healthy. Inflammation and auto-immune diseases like cancer, thrive in an acidic body and go away when you reduce body acidity. The Omega Complete oil mentioned above is a rich source of essential fats which also has an anti-inflammatory effect, thereby reducing pain.

Our South Park Location Is Open During The Crane Disaster

.. And we're serving so many delicious vegan pumpkin things

You may have heard, there is a crane that’s fallen. The fallen crane, in turn, has affected several local business and residents. Some have been evacuated. Businesses have been shutdown for safety reasons.

Our South Park location is one of two shops in the Trillium building who’ve been allowed to stay open during the disaster. But, because access from Spring Garden Road is closed, many people can’t access our cafe, which makes things difficult. Below is a social media post (which, admittedly, you may have seen), which explains our situation:

This is going to be a very transparent and heart-felt post. You may or may not know, that there are three businesses who have allowed to open their doors during the crane accident and South Park st closure. That would be us, @twiggzhalifax, and Fawcett’s Jewellers. While we’ve been open, Humani-T has only been able to do a quarter of its regular daily sales, and that’s because people can only access us through Brenton St. This means a lot of things: staff are not getting hours, and it’s going to be very hard for us to survive this ‘storm’ if it continues. We are being kept in the dark about when anything is going to get fixed, and are very thankful to @wayemason, who has taken it upon himself as an individual initiative to find out what’s going on and emailing all the businesses to keep us in the loop.
What can you do to help? Well, sharing this post would surely help. But also, please stop in! We’re still open. We’re still serving delicious pumpkin treats and delicious coffee / gelato! You just have to access us through the Brenton side of things.

Also, if you can’t physically pop in, please call us and pre-order your vegan pumpkin pies for your next dinner. Plan ahead for Thanksgiving or Christmas if you like! The pies are $9.95, and are 9 inches.

We love you all! And look forward to getting through this and organizing our next ‘Free Gelato Day’! Love,
-Humani-Team.

TL;DR: We’re open, and we’re struggling to pull through due to the limited sidewalk access.

So, what can you do? Please come by! We’re still serving your favourite things! If you’re confused about how to access us, the Spring Garden Business Association put out a video which shows how you get to us through Brenton Street:

Don’t crane on my parade!!🏗
For those of you who may not already know, there are still businesses open on South Park Street. Access them via Brenton St! Please stop by and support these great local businesses.
